The Anagnōstērio "Hē Smyrnē" was a cultural center with a library and a reading hall. There was a committee and the members were responsible for organizing classes, speeches and in general the functioning of the library and the reading hall. Their collection had various books, newspapers and journals both in Greek and other languages. In 1971 they published a journal containing the lectures that were hosted during 1870. One of the lecturers was Sapphō K. Leontias, a great educator, director of various schools and editor of the journal "Eurydikē" and the encyclopaedia "Christomatheia korasiakē pros chrēsin tōn parthenagōgeiōn eis tomous deka."
A second issue was published in 1872. It contains the 1871 accounting files, a catalog of the books donated to the library, and a lecture by Doctor A. Kalligas.
